You might have heard about Block (the company behind Square, the point-of-sale payment processing company) firing 4,000 of its 10,000 employees.

Their CEO, Jack Dorsey, cited “intelligence tools” as a primary reason for this.

I think it was disingenuous and irresponsible for him to say this.

Jack Dorsey was also the founder of Twitter. Why is that relevant? When Twitter was bought by Elon Musk, it was famously reduced from 7,500 employees to about 1,500 with little operational change, proving that it was heavily overstaffed.

It’s true that AI will impact some jobs, there’s no doubt.
