Saw some great advice on X the other day: the best way to get hired is not going to be only applying to jobs.

While aggregators like Remote Source are ideal to discover which companies are hiring, it’s always best to do the following:

  1. Use the search functionality on Remote Source to find jobs you’re qualified for that you’d like to apply to.

  2. Apply via the company website (this is why all of the jobs on Remote Source link directly to the company page).

  3. Reach out to a hiring manager or a person in that role at the company, using LinkedIn or email.

  4. Ask for a 15-minute informational call to learn more about the role. If it seems like a good fit, ask for an internal referral or to begin the formal interview process.

The unfortunate truth is that technology is making it easier for people to apply to many, many more jobs at once, whether qualified or not, which means job seekers need to do even more to stand out in the application process.

Reaching out to individuals directly is a simple step, and it shows initiative that will make any job seeker more memorable.
