Good Morning,

Does it ever blow your mind how powerful ChatGPT, Perplexity, and other AI solutions have become in such a short amount of time? These tools — whether for search, building digital products, performing tasks, or anything else — are used daily by tens of millions of Americans now.

But new products with new use cases always bring unexpected challenges. And one of the biggest current question marks is how much individuals should share with these services, knowing that more detail can give us better outputs — sometimes at the expense of our personal safety.

Fittingly, the Wall Street Journal penned an article about necessary precautions when using these tools. As you might imagine, utilization of the data provided in AI conversations isn’t exactly black-and-white.

But the expert advice is clear. Don’t share any of the following with ChatGPT or an equivalent service: your identity information (think SSN, driver’s license number), medical results, financial account numbers, proprietary corporate information, or login credentials.

For some people, this may be obvious, but I’ve seen plenty of influential people suggest uploading medical results to ChatGPT. And I’m sure others have come up with compelling reasons to share the other information listed above, too.

Stay vigilant. Brave new world!

COMPANY SPOTLIGHT
  • Twilio is a cloud communications platform that enables developers to embed voice, video, messaging, and authentication capabilities into their web and mobile applications via APIs. It powers customer interactions for companies by providing infrastructure for SMS, phone calls, WhatsApp, email, and other real-time communication channels.

  • 124 open roles, primarily in Engineering, Sales, and Marketing.

  • Last year, the Twilio CEO stated on LinkedIn that they are not returning to office as long as he’s running the company. He’s still there, and they’re still remote.

Side note: I planned to feature Paylocity this week, but they announced a return-to-office mandate a few days ago. This reddit post has some key details, and as you can imagine, employees aren’t too happy. After a little digging, it looks like they also need to provide clarification about this in their job postings… 🤷🏻‍♂️

SCAMS

Remote job scams on the rise

Scams that advertise remote jobs and ultimately take money from job seekers are nothing new — but with the increasing prevalence of remote work, they appear more legitimate to their victims these days. Business Insider interviewed several experts to come up with tips on avoiding these scams:

  • If during the application process you’re being asked for money, it’s likely a scam.

  • If you’re unsure about the legitimacy of an offer, search online or on social media for others who have experience in the role you’re looking into.

  • Build a network of others who are looking for similar jobs; you’ll likely identify opportunities and scams faster as a result.

  • Portia Moore says: “If it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is too good to be true, and you want to do your due diligence. When you're looking for remote jobs, you do have to take your time. It's a numbers game. You just can't believe that somebody's selling you gold.”

And, of course, the Remote Source job board only includes hand-selected companies and links directly to their job openings, leaving no room for scams.
