Good Morning,

I had what some might call a “spirited debate” with a friend over the weekend, whose stance is that remote work will eventually return to pre-pandemic numbers. It’s a stance I’ve really only ever heard in the media from bank and real estate executives.

Funny enough, this friend is a commercial real estate executive, so I probably shouldn’t be surprised. But it was highly entertaining to verbally spar with someone that genuinely thinks the world will return to commuting to offices most days of the week.

Some points I shared that often help in these conversations:

  • People want optionality. Among those who can work from anywhere, about 60% want a hybrid arrangement, about 30% want to be fully remote, and about 10% want to be fully in-office. There have been many surveys on this topic in the last few years, and they generally lead to these approximate numbers.

  • Remote work will never be black and white. Every single person works differently and has their own life circumstances that may impact their remote preferences. The best policies will let employees choose where they work that will allow them to deliver their best results.

  • The amount of time that people work from the office on average has leveled off in the last two years. Most economists that study remote work believe we won’t see drastic change anytime soon, but it’s likely that we see a gradual increase in remote work from here on out.

  • I will concede that I enjoyed working from an office earlier in my career, and it helped me learn more about other types of jobs and led to several great friendships. I do think in the first years of a career, or the first few months at a new company, making an extra effort to see colleagues in-person is important. But I think the upside of remote work still outweighs office benefits, especially once you’re established in your career.

  • There is no data that proves working from the office is better for companies or individuals. Major CEOs calling for RTO mandates would have shared it with us by now.

It was a fun conversation. Hope these talking points can help you out, or at least provide some food for thought, next time a WFH debate occurs.

AI TRENDS

Using AI as a career advantage

Every single week there are new tools and use cases for AI that are completely mind-bending. Just a couple days ago a woman with no technical background shared that she built a complete typing instructional program for her kids over a weekend by using AI applications.

Imagine what else is possible now, especially for those without advanced technical knowledge! In that spirit, I thought it would be worth rounding up some recent articles that are focused on how to use AI to your advantage in your career:

  • Ways to future-proof your career in the age of AI.

  • Three AI side hustles that can generate $100,000+ each year.

  • Ten specific AI skills that can make you more valuable to employers.

  • According to LinkedIn survey data, most leaders consider AI adoption a top priority in 2025; people who learn these skills will stand out.

It’s not a particularly new concept, but swiping left and right while looking for jobs seems to have been implemented well with the Sorce app.

It’s currently rated 4.7/5 stars in the Apple app store, with over 1,000 reviews, which seems pretty impressive. Has anyone here used it before? If so, I’d love to hear — reply to this email and let me know!
