• Hundreds of employees at ZeniMax, a subsidiary of Microsoft, went on strike over Microsoft’s RTO policy.

• Bosses and employees still can’t agree on how often to be in the office, and that disconnect doesn’t appear likely to change anytime soon.

• This former big tech employee shares how he would “quiet vacation” while working remotely, which allowed him to travel more frequently than he would have been able to otherwise. Spoiler alert: it’s a lot easier to do if you’re overachieving in your role.

• Searches for cybersecurity certification have skyrocketed in recent years; as a field that often allows (and enables!) remote work, it’s reassuring to see that there’s still substantial demand globally for new workers in this industry.

• Loneliness is still an issue for remote workers, but it can’t just be solved with in-person requirements. The Harvard Business Review says organizations can take proactive steps to help their employees with the right approach.

“DOGE” calls for Federal RTO

Well, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy are saying the quiet part out loud: requiring employees to return to the office will lead to resignations.

The two are expected to spearhead the “Department of Government Efficiency” in Trump’s administration, which will likely reduce the federal workforce substantially.

An unfortunate part of that is their take on remote work, which mirrors JD Vance’s talking point mentioned a few weeks ago: if federal workers are working from home — are they even really working?!

Maybe one day this talking point will die out, but for now, as long as “return to office” accomplishes the goal of a workforce reduction, we’ll likely continue to hear it 🤦🏻‍♂️

Employee satisfaction with workplace collaboration dropped from 36% to 29% in the last year, according to a recent Gartner survey, as companies have forced employees to spend more time in the office.

Unsurprisingly, employees don’t think returning to the office is going to help their work endeavors.

Another discouraging stat: 30% of employees are avoiding more people at work than they were two years ago. Seems like there’s more that needs to be done to build culture than just forcing people to be in the same room.
