Good Morning,

When I made a quip earlier this month about driverless cars being used for mobile offices, I had no idea it was already a legitimate use case:

Never underestimate the innovative, and sometimes incredibly quirky, Bay Area trends. There were some interesting responses as well:

Worth highlighting that these cars are being used for phone calls, not laptop work. Trying to type in a moving vehicle (even sometimes on a plane) is no way to get work done efficiently.

But maybe when voice-to-text gets really good this will be easier to pull off?

Need to Know

📈 HR says remote will grow
A global survey of over 1,200 HR and talent acquisition employees by HireRight found interesting insights in hiring trends.

On remote work, “Almost twice the number of businesses said they were expecting there to be more remote or hybrid working by the end of 2024 than those who expected the practice to reduce.”

And further, less than 10% expect the rate of remote work to decline in the future.

While you and I agree that remote work is the future (big brain opinion), it’s reassuring amid return-to-office headlines to hear that HR employees, who have more insight into workplace trends than most, fully expect remote work to grow. (UNLEASH)

🇺🇸 States with the most remote work
Sherwood News, the Robinhood app’s media publication, shared an interactive map showing the percentage of employees in each state that work remotely at least some of the time.

Washington, DC had the highest rate with 54% (!) and Vermont, Maryland, and Colorado weren’t far behind. (Sherwood News)

🚝 Supercommuters on the rise
We’ve seen the data — and Starbucks’ new CEO is bringing the practice front and center — but it seems that supercommuting is actually becoming a preferred option for many people.

While the spike in this trend was born out of necessity during the recent return-to-office mandates, there are many people, like those referenced in this article, who seem to prefer the practice and don’t view it as an inconvenience at all.

“Remote work” doesn’t have to mean no time in the office — but rather, the option to get work done from home or anywhere else. For those who want to spend a higher percentage of time working from an Amtrak, an airplane, or an office, it’s encouraging to see that employers are open to the idea of offering various levels of flexibility. 🏝️ How to take a remote work vacation
What to keep in mind to ensure you have a successful trip while away from home:

  • Choose a spot wisely, with strong and secure internet

  • Pack well; not last-minute

  • Set boundaries

  • Don’t multi-task too much

  • Communicate well

There are always polarizing takes on whether your coworkers need to know where you’re working from. The truth is, each person’s scenario is different. If you’re not usually on camera, and you’re not taking any time off, it probably doesn’t make sense to share your travel plans. But if your plans will have an impact on your work output or availability, it’s probably smart to address it upfront. (Forbes)

✈️ All-you-can-fly in Europe
Taking a page from the Frontier Airlines playbook, budget airline Wizz Air — which has had the worst flight punctuality in Europe for three straight years — is now offering a flight subscription for €599/year.

The airline actually has a lot of flight options for customers. Last year they flew 17 million more passengers than British Airways.

But there are catches: customers still need to pay €9.99 per flight, and they must book flights at least 72 hours in advance. And if it’s anything like Frontier, customers should probably always have a backup plan ready in case of significant delays or cancellations. (euronews)

💼 AI jobs
Found a new AI job board a few days ago and thought I’d share. After a good amount of scrolling, I can confirm there are a lot of jobs on the board — at least several hundred, if not more. Worth bookmarking if you’re searching for roles in AI. (aijobs.ai)

🪵 Log cabin home offices
Any other former Lincoln Logs enthusiasts out there? A company called Bunkie Life (Instagram link here) has developed a system to simply construct small log cabins using “cabin kits” — and of course, my mind immediately went to detached home offices. (Bunkie Life)
