🌎 Breaking down the State of Remote Work by Buffer

Inside: Top findings from Buffer's annual state of remote work, the job board passes 10K, and a new TikTok trend

Good Morning,

The job board passed 10,000 remote job openings this week, as we added ~80 new companies, and several in that cohort are still establishing connections.

Next time you hear someone complain about their job, be a good influence and send them to our job board 🤠

Need to know

Buffer has been measuring remote work benefits, preferences, and trends since 2018.

Worth keeping in mind: this survey reflects a remote-first, global audience. Buffer surveyed over 3,000 remote workers from around the world, and among those respondents:

  • 53% are remote employees, 43% are independent contractors

  • 19% of respondents live in the US

  • 58% are Millennials, 26% are Gen Z

  • 55% of respondents have worked remotely for two years or less

Here are the most important highlights:

#1 benefit of working remotely: “Flexibility in how I spend my time”

#1 struggle with working remotely: “I stay home too often because I don’t have a reason to leave”

91% of today’s remote workers want to be fully remote or remote-first in the future

75% feel connected to colleagues and/or clients

Special shoutout to Allstate for championing remote work 👍 as their competitor USAA announced last week that they are requiring a return to the office 👎 — even for those who were hired into remote roles!

And finally, South by Southwest is upon us.

If you’ll be attending and you want to chat remote work, remote policy, remote jobs, etc., respond to this email and let me know! I’ll be around and would love to meet some of you in person.

Cheers,
Grant
