🤔 CEOs on remote work: Zillow vs. JPMorgan

Inside: Highlighting good vs. bad remote policies, traveling the world by housesitting and petsitting, and the chains hurt by remote work.

Good Afternoon,

What would you do if your employer required a full return to office?

According to The Harris Poll in late 2022, 73% of remote workers said they "probably would find another remote or hybrid job."

Our friend at the bottom of this email falls squarely into this majority.

Need to know

You can read more at the link, but what I like most from this LinkedIn news feature is the readers' responses to Dimon's opinions. Here are some of my favorites:

  • "I would highly disagree with his old-fashioned, out-dated sentiment."

  • "Employees at all levels don't need to spend 3 hours a day getting ready and commuting into and back from an office to do a job."

  • "Let's stop quoting Jamie Dimon and start quoting the parents who don't want to spend two hours of time commuting that could be spent bonding with their children. The inspiration for our society shouldn't be what millionaire bank CEOs want, it should be what working families want."

Early in the pandemic, Zillow found that remote work was unexpectedly effective. CEO Rich Barton tweeted "my personal opinions about WFH have been turned upside down over the past two months. I expect this will have a lasting influence on the future of work... and home."

Eventually, the pandemic adjustment became a permanent policy change.

Winston Churchill once said, "when the facts change, I change my mind." Let's hope more leaders like Barton are publicized to counter views like Dimon's.

If you've wanted to visit different cities on a budget, then staying at someone's residence and caring for their pet(s) while they're gone might unlock new travel opportunities for you. They have an extensive list of global destinations to choose from, and you can also filter by time frame, high-speed wifi availability, geographic attractions, pet type, and more.

This is seemingly more relevant with each passing week of tech sector layoffs - but if you're looking for a new role and you'd like to stay remote, here's a link to the Remote Source Jobs page.

And if you work for a company that's actively hiring remote workers, let me know and I'll give them a shoutout in these emails.

Cheers,
