👻 Mouse jigglers and Snap's new office policy
Inside: What "default together" means, why mouse jigglers have become so popular, and where to browse for your next workcation.
Good Morning,
Snap announced last week that their employees need to be in the office 4 days each week. The policy is called "default together," running counter to the "remote first" trend that saw a huge uptick at tech companies since 2020.
Hybrid work has been found to result in the best outcomes for companies. Our stance is that - for many reasons, primarily quality of life - it's important for companies to allow flexibility to be remote if it's possible.
And tech companies rebalancing their policies are likely to follow the data that's been collected over the last two years.
But if your company is bringing you back into the office more often than you’d like… maybe we can help with that: remotesource.com/jobs.
There are some fascinating product trends that remote work has prompted, but one of the strangest ones has been Mouse Jigglers. These jigglers, which encompass both software and hardware solutions, will move your mouse so as to keep your status "Active" throughout the work day.
For employees on chat tools that monitor availability, mouse jigglers help them appear online even when they're not actively working. Human ingenuity knows no bounds.
If you happen to be thinking more about workcations we mentioned last week, there's one resource that's at the top of our list to check out: Nomad List.
While similar in feel to Airbnb, Nomad List has specifically been built for digital nomads, and includes a community-driven aspect which allows people to learn from others who have traveled to various cities before them.
Highly recommend using the site or browsing around to give yourself some new travel ideas.
What other resources have you found to be useful when working remotely? We keep a running list here, but we always love learning about new resources from readers.
Cheers,
Grant
